pass 3 · 2026-08-21
Scenario. Grade 6 Tutoring at Jefferson Middle School. Class lists sync
from the school system and can’t be edited here. A program manager splits a section
into named subsections and places students into them. Each subsection is then
scheduled into a period on the board — scheduling shows here only as a read-only
line at the bottom of each tile.
What changed in pass 3 (2026-08-21)
- The editor now appears the way it will ship — as a modal over the
board’s scrim, with a grey stand-in of the mapping board dimmed behind it.
Clicking the scrim acts like Cancel.
- New rule: everything violet (this panel, the STAND-IN tag, prototype
notices) is prototype chrome, not proposed UI. This panel now docks fully
outside the modal.
- Copy audit: wherever the shipped board already has a string for the
same job, the editor now uses the shipped pattern word-for-word — the lift
bar (“Moving/Placing: … — choose …”), “Place here”, the empty-tile drag
hint, “Subsection names must be unique.”, and the screen-reader labels
(“More actions for …”, “Remove X from Y”).
- Under the hood, the editor’s CSS/HTML/JS sit in marked EDITOR-CORE
blocks so the board-integration prototype can embed the identical editor.
Real vs simulated
- Look and interaction grammar match the shipped saga-dash board (tokens, chips, lift bar, menus, modal shell).
- All data is a local seed. Done / Cancel write nothing anywhere.
- “Simulate sync” adds 2 unplaced students. “Open via bell deep-link” fakes arriving from a notification.
- Period scheduling is deliberately not editable here.
Questions for review
- The list starts on “Unplaced”. Right default, or should it start on “All”?
- With 30 students, are search + the select circles + “Select all” enough for big moves?
- Done never blocks on unplaced students. Still the right call?
- Deleting the last subsection is how you un-split. Clear enough, or does it need its own button?
- Should period scheduling be editable here, or stay on the board only?
- Long section names get cut off at the end, so near-identical names look alike. Is the tooltip enough, or should the course code always show?
- The editor opens as its own modal over the board. Right presentation, or should it take over the board modal’s body instead?
